The Neude Square

In the 1990s, the square became car-free thanks to the construction of parking garages in the city. The History of the Neude

The Neude began as a marshy piece of land but was raised and reinforced in the 15th century. The square grew into an important trading place thanks to its proximity to the Oudegracht. A grain market used to take place in the southern corner, but after the arrival of Vredenburg, the markets shifted, and the Neude took on a new function as a bustling city square.
