The Neude Square
The Neude is located in the center of Utrecht, close to attractions such as the Hardebollenstraat, the fabric market on the Breedstraat, the City Hall, and the Oudegracht. In the 1990s, the square became car-free thanks to the construction of parking garages in the city. Today, the Neude is filled with cozy restaurants and heated terraces, making it comfortable to enjoy both in summer and winter. Curious about current activities? The History of the Neude
The Neude began as a marshy piece of land but was raised and reinforced in the 15th century. The square grew into an important trading place thanks to its proximity to the Oudegracht. A grain market used to take place in the southern corner, but after the arrival of Vredenburg, the markets shifted, and the Neude took on a new function as a bustling city square.
