The Stedelijk Museum, built in 1895, is the largest museum for modern and contemporary art and design in the Netherlands. The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam opened its doors in 1895, on Paulus Potterstraat, near the Rijksmuseum in a building designed by architect Adriaan Willem Weissman. In 2012, the museum reopened with an entirely new wing, the main entrance of which is located on Museumplein (Museum Square).
